SUSTAINABILITY

We invest in sustainability-related initiatives in all business areas. We want to ensure that we protect the world and its resources for future generations. For us, sustainability is an opportunity to develop more environmentally friendly products, to invest heavily in renewable energies, to maintain and restore carbon-rich environments and to reduce our carbon emissions worldwide.

We believe that we are making an essential contribution to a sustainable environment!

OUR VISION, PRINCIPLES AND HOW WE DO IT

Environmental vision

We want to be the most sustainable chimney systems producer! We aim to continuously improve our environmental footprint by working on the efficient utilisation of resources, products, facilities and processes. We optimise our plants and machinery from conception and procurement to operations.

Sustainability through Products & Functionality

Our products are environmentally friendly, reliable and innovative. They reduce energy costs and reduce C02 emissions. We strive to reduce our ecological footprint by using the resources to manufacture our products efficiently and by aligning our operations and manufacturing processes according to this basic principle.

We work closely with international experts to create products that meet the highest technical requirements. This quality standard ensures that our customers receive high-quality, safe and efficient products.

Ceramic chimney systems

When producing and commissioning our ceramic chimney systems, we attach great importance to sustainability and efficiency. The environmentally friendly ceramic material, which is produced with reduced environmental impact, ensures that we deliver an ecologically sustainable product. Our ceramic products also offer advantages such as:

  • High-performance ceramic flue liners & concrete insulation blocks
  • Compatible with air-independent heating – separate air intake pipe
  • Prefabricated units for faster construction
  • Thermo-shaft: Perfect for air-independent heating

Steel chimney systems

Our stainless steel systems provide enormous advantages due to the material. This is not only hygienic or sustainable; it is also neutral with regard to recycling. Our stainless steel products also offer advantages such as:

  • Single wall, flexible stainless systems
  • Twin wall insulated flue systems
  • Low external case temperature
  • High & Low pressure ducting for industrial applications

Stove systems

Our furnace systems are state of the art. No matter whether our SIRIUS product line or our KINGFIRE design furnace system is integrated in a shaft – we always pay attention to CO2-neutral combustion. In addition, our furnace systems provide other advantages such as:

  • Fireplace integrated into flue system for efficient use of floor space
  • Highest functionality: operating with controlled living space ventilation
  • CO2 neutral combustion: The KINGFIRE is exclusively with logs or wood briquettes that have CO2 neutral combustion

Ventilation systems

Efficient heating is useless without optimal indoor air. With our ventilation systems we offer the ideal comfort for a healthy living climate. Our ventilation systems can not only be fully integrated into the house, they also offer advantages such as:

  • Energy efficient ventilation system with heat recovery (CombiAir)
  • Integrated into housing structure
  • Energy saving for heating

We follow the 4R principles

REDUCE: We use fewer resources and reduce the amount of waste we reduce.

REUSE: Before we recycle or dispose of anything, we find ways to use materials again.

RECYCLE: To prevent wasting potentially useful materials we always try to process the transforming of waste materials into new products.

REFUSE: We do not accept to use harmful materials.

WOOD – THE MOST NATURAL WAY OF HEATING

Sustainability and climate protection are very important topics for all of us. It is our responsibility, both as a manufacturer and as a consumer to be careful about which energy sources we use and how we use them. The use of firewood saves millions of tons of CO2 in Europe and is a significant help in avoiding greenhouse gases.

The intelligent and sustainable use of natural, renewable, raw materials, such as wood, as a renewable energy source alongside energy-efficient heating systems, helps us to achieve challenging climate goals with low emissions.

Why heating with wood

  • RENEWABLE RESOURCE
Wood is a renewable resource that burns only as much carbon dioxide (CO2) as it releases from natural decomposition in the forest or as much as the tree captured from the atmosphere during its growth.

  • HIGH ENERGY VALUE
Firewood has a high energy value. For example, take oak: whilst it has a residual wood moisture content of approx. 15–20%, its calorific value adds up to 4.2 kWh per kilogram.

  • LOW EMISSION FACTOR
The impact of air pollution on our health and environment is so significant that it is considered to be the second biggest environmental concern after climate change. Firewood has a low emission factor in comparison with other energy sources, with a very low primary energy coefficient of 0.2.

  • SLASHING EMISSIONS FROM RESIDENTIAL WOOD BURNING
Conversely, residential wood combustion occurs mostly in rural and sparsely populated areas, with a much more dispersed concentration. Old stoves and open fires pollute much more than a modern wood appliance. Old stoves are part of the problem, new stoves are stove part of the solution.

  • EFFICIENCY
Today’s technology from Schiedel is able to boost the efficiency of stoves drastically by up to 95%, while also reducing emissions by 95% in comparison to old and inefficient stoves.

  • EUROPEAN FOREST IS GROWING
30% of annual forest growth remains in the forest. The area of European forests is increasing by the size of a football field every minute, increasing the potential for carbon capture in the coming decades.

  • USE OF ENTIRE TREE
Sustainable use of the entire tree: wood as a raw material is not only a great material to create energy and warmth but is also suitable for building construction or making wood furniture.

  • EUROPEAN CLIMATE GOALS
In addition to energy savings, the EU is focusing on renewable energies, such as biomass, and wood in particular. Our energy systems need to become fossil fuel free. By 2020 the EU wants renewable energy to make up a 20% share of the gross energy consumption and at least 30% by 2030
